Our Story

Why we exist

CalmingSpaces was founded in response to the alarming rise of suicide deaths in Zimbabwe. Our founder, a dedicated psychologist, was driven by a passion to create a safe and calming environment for individuals struggling with overwhelming emotions and thoughts of ending their life. Recognizing the need for immediate support, she assembled a team of mental health professionals commited to providing emergency crisis intervention. Today, CalmingSpaces continues to offer a haven of hope and healing for those in need

Fanscisca Magwaza

Honours Degree in Psychology Executive Certificate in Programs and Project Monitoring and Evaluation Masters degree in Counseling Psychology Certificate in children assessment and intervention Registered with AHPCZ. The trustee's extensive experience and expertise in mental health uniquely position her to contribute significantly in the organization. With a background in individual, family and group therapy, as well as specialized experience providing psychotherapy to survivors of gender-based violence and sexual abuse, she brings valuable insights to inform strategies and support services. Her experience working with parasuicide patients in a hospital setting and as a call center agent at an NGO further enhances their understanding of crisis intervention, enabling her to provide expert guidance and support to the organization.

Abigail Shoniwa

BCOM Honors Degree in Human Capital Degree. The trustee is detail oriented & results driven Human Resources and Administration. She has human resources experience in implementing and maintaining integrated business and human resources solutions and articulate at preparing reports, budgets, commentaries and financial statements in a NGO. Talented in handling complex assignments, use of information and communication technologies in delivering transformational human resources management solutions.

Olive Kausika

Strategic and Operational Support. She brings a strong background in technical and operational systems, with professional experience in engineering and project management. Her expertise includes data analysis, process optimisation, technology integration, and strategic problem-solving. These skills support the organisation by enhancing its digital infrastructure, evaluating program outcomes and improving operational efficiency. As a trustee, she contributes a logical, solutions-oriented perspective that helps ensure decisions are grounded, measurable and sustainable. She is also committed to ethical governance and transparency, while supporting the organisation’s emotional and social mission through systems that enable broader reach and greater impact.

LLB HONORS DEGREE IN LAW . Certificate in public speaking The trustee will help the organization by providing a strong understanding of legal frameworks, policies, and human rights, enabling the trustee to navigate complex issues, ensure compliance, and advocate for the organization's mission. The public speaking certificate enhances her ability to effectively communicate the organization's message, raise awareness about mental health, and engage with stakeholders, ultimately helping to reduce stigma around mental health issues and promote the organization's goals.

BSc in Anthropology and Cultural Heritage As an Anthropologist at CalmingSpaces Zimbabwe, the trustee leverages her anthropological expertise to design and implement community-based initiatives that promote mental health awareness, suicide prevention, and crisis intervention. By engaging with local communities, understanding their unique needs and cultural contexts, and fostering partnerships, she develops programs that enhance CalmingSpaces' impact and reach. Her efforts ultimately contribute to a more supportive and resilient community.
